DESCRIPTION:Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our time. The energy system\, while being one of the main pillars of modern societies\, is also one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. The Green Transition toward sustainable\, resilient\, and affordable energy supply is pursued with a mix of solutions\, such as:  \n\ndeploying renewable energy sources (Christine Brandstätt)\naccelerating hydrogen and green fuels (Johannes Giehl)\ncapturing CO2 for utilization and storage (Manuel Llorca)\nand potentially nuclear power (Jens Weibezahn)\n\nEach of these are associated with their own economic\, societal\, regulatory\, and technological issues to ensure their implementation and that businesses can transition smoothly.  \nIn this talk\, a group of four researchers from the Copenhagen School of Energy Infrastructure (CSEI) at the Department of Economics will discuss some key aspects related to these solutions.

SUMMARY:Research Seminar on "Contextualizing the Green Transition in Indigenous Territories"
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Jacobo Ramirez\, Associate Professor at Copenhagen Business School \nThe seminar takes place in Porcelænshaven 16A\, room 2.80. \nAbstract: \nThis qualitative study examines the impact of green energy investment on the Indigenous Wayúu people of La Guajira\, Colombia\, through the theoretical frameworks of coloniality of power and decolonial feminism. Using interviews and focus groups\, we explore the struggles and resilience of Wayúu women in defending their territories against large-scale green energy investments\, which often cause community conflicts and fail to respect Indigenous peoples’ ontology. We found that green colonialism is often disguised as a need to invest in green energy for the greater good\, but our study shows that Wayúu women are actively engaged in protecting their ancestral lands and defending their Indigenous ontology against the encroachment of large-scale green energy investments through feminist decoloniality practices. Our research highlights the importance of long-term investment and energy transition rhetoric that respects Indigenous peoples’ ancestral territories and protects the rights of Indigenous women. By emphasizing the need for coherent public policies towards decarbonisation that are inclusive of Indigenous peoples\, our study contributes to ongoing efforts to promote sustainable and equitable energy transitions.

SUMMARY:Workshop: Electricity market reform in Europe
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a workshop on Electricity market reform in Europe organised jointly by Oxford Institute for Energy Studies and Copenhagen School of Energy Infrastructure.  \nAfter a good year of soaring wholesale prices\, many have come to blame market design for translating gas price increases into electricity revenues\, irrespective of the primary energy source. As a consequence\, the European Commission is now consulting a wide range of reform options for the European electricity market. Beyond the current energy crisis and short-term issues\, the concern remains that market design is not fit for deep penetration of renewable electricity\, with either low price levels or uncertain changes in market design jeopardizing the large-scale investments that are needed. \nTopics for discussion include: \n\nMarkets within the framework of infrastructure addressing issues of congestion\, investment perspectives and innovation\nFundamental reforms vs. incremental change including the conundrum of energy only and zero marginal cost market\, a perspective for nodal pricing and decentralization\nMarket interventions meaning price-caps\, hedging\, contracts for difference among others\n\nEach panel will take up 90 minutes and feature several expert impulses but giving room for actual discussions among the participants.
