Energy independence isn’t just a climate goal — it’s a security imperative.
As outlined in a Børsen op-ed by CSEI’s Center Coordinator Philipp Ostrowicz- Europe’s energy dependencies have shifted, but they haven’t disappeared. Russian gas has been replaced by American LNG, and China dominates the minerals and technologies powering the green transition.
This is why CSEI is working at the intersection of technology, policy, and strategy to strengthen Europe’s energy resilience. Our research focuses on:
– Scaling European renewable energy systems by investigating how we solve cross-border cost challenges so that Europeans can enjoy greener energy and a more secure supply as we ramp up developments to meet our growing needs.
– Building robust supply chains for green technology such as hydrogen and green fuels by answering questions about market demands and how our Nordic neighbors can create synergies to exploit regional potentials.
– Integrating energy security into policy debates, ensuring Europe’s transition is not only sustainable but strategically autonomous. Energy has become a geopolitical battleground. The question is not whether Europe can achieve independence — but how fast we act.
