Copenhagen Business School (CBS) is proud to announce the appointment of Catharina Sikow-Magny, former Director for Green Transition and Energy System Integration at the European Commission’s DG Energy, as Adjunct Professor at the Copenhagen School of Energy Infrastructure (CSEI).
This appointment marks a major strategic milestone in CSEI’s commitment to shaping the future of sustainable energy systems through academic excellence, high-level policy insight, and cross-sectoral collaboration.
With more than three decades of experience at the forefront of European energy, transport, and infrastructure policy, Ms Sikow-Magny brings unparalleled expertise to CBS. She has been instrumental in shaping EU energy market integration, cross-border infrastructure development, and the decarbonisation agenda. As Director at DG Energy, she has also overseen policy on renewables, hydrogen, CO₂ networks, and regional cooperation – all core themes in Europe’s climate and competitiveness agenda.
Her appointment reinforces CSEI’s position as a hub for cutting-edge research and policy dialogue also on the twin transition of climate and competitiveness. “Catharina’s deep policy insight and cross-sectoral leadership will greatly enrich our research, teaching, and stakeholder engagement at CSEI,” says Professor Tooraj Jamasb, Director of CSEI. “She embodies the nexus between academic thought and real-world impact.”
CSEI, established to support Europe’s energy transition through strategic research and engagement, works closely with the European Commission and key energy actors across the continent. Ms Sikow-Magny has been co-chair of CSEI’s Advisory Board since the beginning and her long-standing leadership in initiatives such as the trans-European Energy Networks (TEN-E), the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), and the EU’s Green Deal infrastructure framework positions her as an ideal future and long-term partner for the centre’s mission.
“I’m honoured to join CBS and CSEI as Adjunct Professor at such a decisive time for Europe’s energy transition. CSEI stands out as a dynamic platform for bridging research and real-world policy. I look forward to contributing to its mission of impact, dialogue, and innovation” says Ms Sikow-Magny.
A Finnish economist by training, Ms Sikow-Magny holds a Master of Science in Economics from the Helsinki School of Economics and has published widely on EU energy policy and law, market design, and infrastructure policy. She is a multilingual leader and a sought-after speaker on energy security, grid resilience, and just transition.
“CSEI has developed dynamically over the past years since its opening in 2019 especially thanks to the strong support of our partners from the energy sector and the cooperation with the European Commission. The appointment of Catharina is a major step towards a future where the centre will grow and flourish as a leading European platform for knowledge, dialogue, and impact”, says Philipp A. Ostrowicz, coordinator of CSEI.
As Adjunct Professor, Ms Sikow-Magny will contribute to CSEI’s research, teaching and strategic development, and help bridge academic insights with the rapidly evolving European policy landscape. She will give her inaugural lecture on the topic of flexibility at CSEI’s annual conference SustainED on September 12th, 2025.
